International Charitable Organization “SOS Kinderdorf International” (“SOS Children Village”) was founded by German Gmeiner in 1949 in Austria. After the end of the Second World War, that covered Europe like destroyable wave, a great number of children have become orphaned. German Gmeiner could not watch it calmly, so that he initiated the program of the full-fledged family’s creation for every orphaned child.
The first SOS Children Village was built in the small Austrian town called Imst, whish is nowadays the example for all the National Associations around the world. Such kind of initiative has got huge support among Austrians and thanks to partners in short time has reach international level.
Today SOS Children Village is the biggest nongovernmental charitable organization, which realizes its activity in the 132 countries around the world with the help of National Associations. Every National Organization deals with state governmental bodies, departments and organizations in its country, of course with the help of partners and sponsors for the future of bereaved children.
SOS Children Village creates separate houses with developed infrastructure, in which SOS families live fully life in conditions of family care and protection. 458 “SOS Children Villages” and 359 “SOS Youth Facilities” has become the real home for 65 776 orphaned children and youth all over the world.More then 130 000 children attend SOS Children Gardens, schools and developing centers and about 620 000 persons get support in SOS medical and social centers. Besides, SOS Children Villages provide with help those, who suffered from natural disasters, military acts and other accidences.
