The official opening of the first Ukrainian SOS Children Village took place in Brovary

The official opening of the first Ukrainian SOS Children Village in Brovary where 9 SOS-family with 42 children have already found their homes, took place, .
Follwing speakers took the floor on solemnization: Helmut Kutin, President of SOS Children Villages; dr. Marcus Vuketich, Ambassador of Austria; Anatoliy Prysiazhniuk, The Head of Kiev region; Vitaliy Klichko, Famous public and cultural figure; mr. Stefan Woxstrom, The Head of Representative office in Ukraine, Astra Zeneka.
During the opening day, event guests and children of the SOS Village had a lot of activities prepared for them. The participants had a chance to learn the traditional Ukrainian craftsmanship in a newly created “Craftsmen City”. The event hosted the performances of various youth creative groups including the performances prepared by the SOS children. At the end, all the participants tasted the traditional Ukrainian cuisine.
The construction of the first Ukrainian SOS city lasted for 3 years and cost 2 mln. euros. A substantial fraction of these funds for the SOS Village in Brovary were raised by nine huge industrial companies and a bunch of regular citizens from Sweden. The rest of the sum came from the National SOS Association of Iceland and the charity campaign organized by SOS Kinderdorf in cooperation with FIFA during the World Cup in 2006. Besides, a number of Ukrainian companies joined this initiative throughout 2006-2010 to support the children.
The President of SOS Children Villages, Helmut Kutin noticed: “It’s a big pleasure for me that one more SOS Children Village has appeared on a map (in Brovary). It means that the world becomes warmer and more kind by 42 children’s smiles."
The Charitable Foundation plans to increase SOS Children Village to 13 families with 84 children in 2011. Nevertheless, the “SOS Children Village” will not stop there. The Foundation also plans to develop “SOS Children Village” programs in Lugansk, Crimea and Zaporizhia.
